Depends where you live. In some states you cannot make a dime from it, in others you can. Some bars just host poker games for free to get people in the door, some make a small charge for games and the players win league points. Then every so often you can have a freeroll for members and give away prizes. As long as you let anyone play it is not gambling because they can join for free and play in the tournament for free.
But without knowing what area you live in, there is almost no way to answer your question.

The gaming board are fine with casino nights, but the liqueur licencing guys tend to say that you are profiting from gaming by bar sales. Many pubs report that they take more money over the bar when they have a casino night than on new years eve!
if in doubt please contact www.aceofspadescasino.co.uk for some casino night hire free advice.

reckoning on the state those events are ordinarily for Charity. while you're actually not doing this for Charity, you're taking a gamble that the corporation you settlement with won't rip you off when you consider which you will no longer have any criminal recourse in the event that they do. reckoning on the video games you choose, this is something you're able to do your self. while you're doing video games which incorporate Black Jack you will ought to be the financial employer and pay any winners. best is to have a poker tournament wherein one and all buys in and the blinds boost each and every half-hour or so. All you like are some tables, chairs, and poker chips.

We got around the laws here where I live by calling the event a "private function" so as we can charge an entry fee. We gave out gift certificates to local businesses (hardware store, liquor store, beer store etc...) as prize money. No money at any time was to exchange hands at the tables, all the players had to run a tab and settle there account when they were done. You would have to look into the laws where you live and work around them.

The license for this event you get from the city / town hall. It is a special license and then you also have to contact the lottery. You KNOW they are going to get their share of taxes. Now they do have companies in different states that does these VEGAS nights as they are called. They will come in set everything up and they charge a certain amount of money. EVERYTHING made on the night in question goes to you. BUT again the state is going to GET their share in TAXES.

You need to be careful. I have seen bars busted for hosting poker games etc, even when they are playing for fun and no money is won or lost. The way the law sees it is that the house is making money by hosting the event through the sell of drinks, food etc and this makes it illegal.

If you are in the UK, your local council would be a good place to start, and I think licensing magistrates have some say in this. It's not a bad idea in general, because as the old gambler's saying goes, the house always wins (you may still want to take out insurance in case you get cleaned out).
